The purpose of the business trip in the frames of the of fully-developed project proposal “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” to be submitted to AF was:
- Organization of meetings with community leaders, community staff, pedagogical staff and residents of Urtsadzor community of Armenia’s Ararat region,
- Study of areas included in the program,
- Knowledge and awareness needs assessment.
The purpose, objectives and peculiarities of the project “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” were presented to the participants at the meeting held at Urtsadzor Municipality, school and Shaghap community school. The measures that could contribute to the adaptation of natural and agricultural ecosystems within the administrative boundaries of the community, as well as improving the social conditions of the residents were discussed. The participants highlighted the program and noted that the community and the community resident were willing to support the program at all stages of implementation. With the participation of the community head and the administrative officials of the village of Shaghap, the possible areas of the program were visited and reviewed, in particular community adjacent degraded pastures, hay meadows, arable lands, the most damaged parts of the irrigation system, as well as the areas where the establishment of fruit orchards and forest-parks with drip irrigation are possible.
Surveys with pre-designed questionnaires were conducted in Urtsadzor and Shaghap communities.
