Submission of field roads to Dilijan enlarged community in the frameworks of the “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” project

On March 9, 2022, Acting Deputy Director of the “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” Armen Khojoyan and representatives of the EPIU’s departments arrived to Dilijan city, Aghavnavank, Gosh, Teghut, Khachardzan, Haghartsin  administrative districts of Dilijan enlarged municipal community of  Tavush region on a working visit to officially submit field roads built under  the “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” project to the community.

The “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” grant program is funded by the Adaptation Fund of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The objective of the four-year project launched in 2019 is to reduce the climate risk vulnerability of local communities living adjacent to the “Khosrov Forest” and “Dilijan” National Park by strengthening the adaptive capacity of the agricultural sector and reinforcing their institutional and planning capacity for climate change adaptation. The beneficiary communities of the program are Dilijan enlarged municipal community (Dilijan, Aghavnavank, Gosh, Khachardzan, Haghartsin and Tehut) of Tavush region, Vedi enlarged municipal community (Urtsadzor, Shaghap and Landzhanist) of Ararat region and Mrgahovit and Fioletovo communities of Lori region.

Thanks to the reconstruction of about 25,000 metres of field roads and the installation of 38 drainage pipe crossings in the community, the accessibility of remote pastures has increased, and the load on nearby pastures has decreased.

The representatives of the EPIU, construction and control organizations, Dilijan enlarged municipal community participated in the ceremony of submission of the field roads.

As part of the business trip, representatives of the EPIU also visited Dilijan State College, where they got acquainted with the current work, the conditions of the eco-club created at the college with the assistance of the SA, and discussed the upcoming tasks with representatives of the eco-club.

Submission of the photovoltaic solar power stations to Shaghap administrative district in the frameworks of the “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” project

On February 11, 2022, Acting Director of the “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” Armen Yesoyan, Acting Deputy Director Armen Khojoyan and representatives of the EPIU’s departments arrived to Shaghap administrative district of Vedi enlarged municipal community of  Ararat region on a working visit to officially submit two photovoltaic solar power stations to the community in the frameworks of the “Strengthening land based adaptation capacity in communities adjacent to protected areas in Armenia” project.

The construction of solar power stations with a capacity of 14 kW and 24 kW, designed to operate two pumps, was carried out as part of the Project component 1 (Community based, climate smart agricultural practices in degraded areas and buffer zones). The exploitation of the stations allows residents to reduce irrigation costs by saving the amount charged for electricity.

The representatives of the EPIU, construction and control organizations, acting head enlarged municipal community Garik Sargsyan and head of Shaghap administrative district Maro Arakelyan participated in the ceremony of submission of the solar power stations.

A regular session of the “Readiness Support and Preparation Support” grant program’s Steering Committee

On February 3, a regular session of the Steering Committee of the grant program “Readiness Support and Preparation Support”, funded by the Ministry of the Environment and the Green Climate Fund and implemented by ARMSVISBANK CJSC, was held in the Ministry.

The session was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment (Chairman of the Committee) A. Mazmanyan, Deputy Minister of Economy A. Ispiryan, Executive Director of ARMSVISBANK CJSC G. Machanyan, Acting Director of the “Environmental Project Implementation Unit” A. Yesoyan, member of the Council of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia O. Kagramanyan and other officials.

The Deputy Minister of the Environment and the Executive Director of ARMSVISBANK CJSC made a welcoming speech.

Stressing the importance of effective cooperation between the public and private sectors, the sides discussed the possibilities of full and effective implementation of the existing potential and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the name of the “green” future of Armenia.

Deputy Director of the Lending Department of ARMSVISBANK CJSC, Head of the Project Financing Department A. Makaryan made a report on the actions implemented within the frames of the Program during 2022 and their results.

The changes proposed in the annual work schedule of the Program and the procurement plan were presented.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest and reached an agreement on the transition to practical steps.

Visiting Session of the “Artik city closed stone pit wastes and flood management” pilot project’s Steering Committee

On February 1, a visiting session of the Steering Committee of the “Artik city closed stone pit wastes and flood management” pilot project of the “Environmental project Implementation unit” State Agency was held in the city hall of the Artik municipality of the Shirak region.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment Anna Mazmanyan joined the session remotely. The session was attended by the Director of the EPIU Armen Yesoyan, the head of the Artik community Ananik Voskanyan, deputy heads of the Artik community, the representatives of the “Sustainable climate development” NGO, village heads, the members of the Steering Committee Suren Mamyan, Aram Sayadyan, Levon Azizyan, Andranik Frangyan, Narine Hakobyan, Sevak Matilyan, Arman Ajamoglyan, the EPIU staff members, as well as other invited persons.

During the session the results of the work carried out within the framework of the Project were presented, the draft decision on the execution of works specified by the annual procurement plan (July 2020-July 2021) of the Project and the distribution of waste bins were discussed, the procurement plan for 2022 and the work schedule of the Project were approved.
